How Much Should a Small Business Website Cost?

2026-07-23

Short answer: usually somewhere between $600 and $2,500, depending on what the site actually needs to do. Here's what determines where you land in that range.

If you've asked a few web designers for a quote and gotten wildly different numbers back, you're not imagining things. "Website" covers everything from a single page with your hours and phone number to a full booking-and-payments system, and pricing that doesn't reflect that range is either lowballing you to win the job or padding the number to cover scope nobody's defined yet.

What actually drives the price

  • Number of real pages. A one-page site with a few sections is cheaper than five distinct pages with their own routes, because each page needs its own layout, copy, and SEO attention.
  • Booking or payment integration. Wiring up an existing platform like Schedulista or Square Appointments is a moderate add. Building a custom login/booking system from scratch is a much bigger, and usually unnecessary, undertaking.
  • Content and photography. If you already have good copy and real photos of your business, that's real money saved. If someone needs to write the copy and you need photography arranged, that's additional work, not padding.
  • Ecommerce scope. A visual refresh on a Shopify or WooCommerce store you already run is a different job entirely from a custom storefront build — and most small businesses only need the former.

Rough ranges, so you have an anchor

For a simple brochure site — a handful of pages or a polished single page, no accounts, real photography — expect somewhere around $600 to $1,200. A fuller multi-page business site with contact forms and a blog structure built for SEO growth typically runs $1,200 to $2,500. Add booking-platform integration and per-service pages, and you're in a similar $1,800 to $2,500 range, just with different features. A visual refresh on a store you already run — not a full custom build — usually lands between $300 and $800.

Those are the ranges Mistline Studio itself prints on its own pricing page, and we don't think that's unusual — any studio that's actually being straight with you should be able to give you a range before you've signed anything.

How to avoid a surprise invoice

Get the price range in writing before you start, and get specific about what's included — how many rounds of revisions, whether the price includes basic SEO setup, who's responsible for the copy. And if a studio will build you a real, working sample before you pay anything, take them up on it. Deciding based on something you can actually click through beats deciding based on a mood board and a quote.
